The sad demise of Networking Groups in Thirsk

The other day, I found out that the last Business Networking group that I know of in Thirsk has been cancelled!
Where does this leave businesses in Thirsk and the local area?

The options are now limited – travelling to York/Harrogate/Leeds/Middlesbrough for an early breakfast meeting which starts at 6.30/7am is not very appealing, but it looks like it’ll be the only option for many Thirsk – and rural North Yorkshire-based businesses.

If you’re a member of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) as I am, the options are a little more open – they have monthly meetings in Ripon/Harrogate (Harrogate Branch), Leeming Bar (Dales Branch) and York (York Branch). However I think that’s about it. It really surprises me that, given the number of businesses in Thirsk, there are no networking groups still in existence.

It got me thinking about starting a Group myself – I’m so sure that given some decent marketing effort, it would be possible to run a group in Thirsk.
So I began to canvass opinion on Twitter, and several people responded, which encouraged me enough to begin looking into it.

If we do get a Group going, it will have to be after October, as that’s when my baby is due! Once that’s over, I’ll get on with organising a Group if there is enough interest.
